A.J. Schirack and Jenna DiFolco Win Water Walk & Run
Wednesday night's race was the 22nd Annual Water Walk and Run, celebrating National Drinking Water Week, sponsored by Golden Heart Utilities. The out-and-back 5Km course ran on the bike path along the river west from the water plant. The temperature was in the high 40's to low 50's -- the warmest day for a running race so far this "spring."
West Valley Girls, Lathrop Boys On Top in Lathrop Invitational
The Lathrop boys and West Valley girls came out on top in the Lathrop Invitational, as the much-delayed Region VI Track & Field season finally got underway in cold, overcast conditions that seemed more like a March day than May 4. Despite the weather there was a healthy turnout of athletes and a few impressive performances, even though the snowberms exceeded the height of the hurdles in places.
Chena River Run 2013
Stian Stensland and Tara Wilkins were the winners of the 33rd Annual Chena River Run 5Km Saturday morning. Stensland eked out a fraction-of-a-second win over UAF runner Ross MacDougall after overtaking him in the final 10 meters, 16:23.2-16:23.7, while Wilkins had a slightly more comfortable margin of 3.4 seconds over Aleece Hoelscher, 19:44.7-19:48.1.
Alaska Walk & Run for Autism 5K
Paul Wayfield made it two 5K wins in a row, taking the top spot in the Alaska 5K Walk and Run for Autism one week after winning the Run for Relief 5Km. Wayfield was the only runner under 20 minutes on a cold, blustery day on which the mercury never surpassed freezing.
Run for Relief 5Km Results
The course was somewhat snow-covered, but the weather was beautiful, and 311 runners finished the Run for Relief 5Km at Pioneer Park on the afternoon of Saturday, April 20. Paul Wayfield was the men's winner in 20:43.7, and Libbey Willhelm won for women in 24:12.0.

Stian Stensland and Ali McPhetres were the winners in the Beat Beethoven 5Km, the first major event of the local running season, comfortably winning the men's and women's divisions, respectively.
